Loro Piana cashmere sweaters: history, models, sizing and price of baby cashmere
Before the shoes, Loro Piana is above all a wool and cashmere house, and its baby cashmere sweaters are among the priciest on the market. Here's where that fibre comes from, the models that matter, how to pick your size and what it costs, in store and on Yupoo.
The story of Loro Piana cashmere
The Loro Piana family has been working with wool since the 19th century. In 1924, Pietro Loro Piana founded the company in Quarona, Piedmont, Italy. For decades the house was mostly known for its fabrics, sold to tailors and other brands. Sergio and Pier Luigi Loro Piana then built up the ready-to-wear side, and in 2013 LVMH took control of the company.
The star fibre is baby cashmere. It comes from the underfleece of Hircus goat kids in the Mongolian uplands. That down is combed just once in the animal's life, before it turns 12 months old. A single sweater needs a lot of it, which partly explains the price.
Loro Piana sweaters almost never have a visible logo. You recognise them by the material, the quiet colours and the simple cuts. That's exactly what the quiet luxury trend put in the spotlight, and it's why these sweaters became so sought after.
The models that matter
| Model | What it is | Good to know |
| Classic crewneck | The core crewneck in baby cashmere | Slightly relaxed fit through the chest, shoulders and armholes |
| Ultra-light crewneck | Very fine baby cashmere | For in-between seasons or under a jacket |
| Classic V-neck | Same knit, V neckline | Easy to wear over a shirt |
| Classic turtleneck | Turtleneck version in baby cashmere | The winter model above all |
| Half-zip sweater | High collar with a short zip | Sportier, often in a thicker knit |
Which size to pick
Loro Piana sweaters are often listed in Italian sizes (46, 48, 50…) or in S, M, L depending on the model and the country. They don't read the same way: an Italian 48 usually matches an S or an M. The safest way is to compare centimetres, not letters.
- Lay a sweater that fits you well flat, measure armpit to armpit and double it. Compare that number with the chest measurement in the size chart.
- The Classic is cut a bit relaxed: if you like a closer fit, you can go one size down.
- Cashmere relaxes a little as you wear it. Don't size up thinking it will shrink.
- Also check sleeve and back length in the chart, especially if you're tall.
- On Yupoo, size charts are usually in centimetres, sometimes in Chinese (胸围 means chest).
Loro Piana sweater price in 2026
On Loro Piana's official French site, a Classic baby cashmere crewneck costs around €1,500 in 2026. The ultra-light crewneck is in the same price range. More elaborate models, in chunky knit or with patterns, can go up to around €2,800. Prices vary with seasons and countries.
On Yupoo, you'll see huge gaps between sellers. Yupa shows the price each seller lists, converted to euros, without changing it, and always sends you to the seller's album: we don't sell anything. Before comparing, look closely at the knit in the photos, the stated composition and the size chart, and count shipping and customs (it's all in /guides/douane-colis-chine).
The brand name in an album title guarantees nothing about origin or material. An official Loro Piana sweater is bought in a Loro Piana store or from an authorised retailer. What the law says about branded items is summed up in /blog/yupoo-fiable-legal.
| Model | Official store price (around, 2026) |
| Classic baby cashmere crewneck | around €1,500 |
| Ultra-light baby cashmere crewneck | around €1,500 |
| Chunky knit or patterned models | up to around €2,800 |
Finding it on Yupoo with Yupa
Looking for a sweater on Yupoo store by store takes hours. Yupa goes through the public catalogues of many stores at the same time. Search tips are detailed in /blog/chercher-sur-yupoo.
- Type Loro Piana then cashmere, sweater or knit in the Yupa search. In Chinese, 羊绒 means cashmere and 毛衣 means sweater.
- Filter by type (tops, knitwear) and by size.
- Compare several stores: price in euros, photos of the knit, stated composition.
- Open the seller's album to read the composition and size chart they give.
- Note the album reference and the size you want before writing to the seller or your agent.
How to look after it
Cashmere doesn't need washing often. After two or three wears, just air it out. When it does need a wash, hand wash it in cold water with a wool detergent, without rubbing, or use a very gentle wool cycle. Don't wring it: roll it in a towel, then dry it flat.
Never hang it on a hanger, it stretches out: fold it. A bit of pilling is normal at first and comes off with a cashmere comb. For summer, store it clean in a cotton bag with a cedar block against moths.
Do Loro Piana sweaters run big?
The Classic crewneck is cut a bit relaxed through the chest and shoulders. If you like a closer fit, one size down can work. Always compare the chart's chest measurement with a sweater that fits you.

On the official French site, around €1,500 for a Classic baby cashmere crewneck in 2026. Chunky knit or patterned models can go up to around €2,800.
