Where the LV Skate comes from

The LV Skate Sneaker first appeared at Louis Vuitton's Fall-Winter 2022 men's show, held in Paris in January 2022. It was the last men's collection designed by Virgil Abloh, the house's men's artistic director since 2018, who died in November 2021.

The shoe borrows the codes of 90s skate shoes: a chunky shape, a heavily padded collar, double laces and a thick two-tone rubber sole. The upper mixes technical mesh, calf leather and suede, with Monogram flowers on the upper and the sole.

It then came out in lots of colors and materials. In 2023, Louis Vuitton released a version by Colm Dillane, the founder of KidSuper, in grey and green, made in Italy. Before it, the house had already put out a skate shoe with Lucien Clarke, a Palace team skater, for the Pre-Spring 2021 collection.

Louis Vuitton says on its product pages that the LV Skate fits true to size and recommends ordering your usual size. A few more pointers:

Narrow or regular feet: take your usual size.
Between sizes or wide feet: go for the size up.
Check the sizing system: depending on the country and the seller, the size may be listed in UK, US or EU. A UK 8 is not an EU 8.
Measure your foot in centimeters (heel against a wall, to the tip of your big toe) and compare it with the insole length in the seller's size chart.

How to wear and care for the LV Skate

It's a bulky sneaker: it works best with fairly wide pants that fall over the shoe, like straight jeans, cargos or sweatpants. Pants that are too tight make the volume stand out.

For care, brush the suede dry with a soft brush and wipe the leather with a barely damp cloth. Never put them in the washing machine: it ruins the suede and the padding.
