Moncler Maya: the story of the puffer, sizing and prices on Yupoo

The Maya is Moncler's short, shiny puffer you see everywhere as soon as it gets cold. Here's where it comes from, how to pick your size, what it costs in store and how to look for it on Yupoo with Yupa.

Where the Moncler Maya comes from

Moncler was founded in 1952 in Monestier-de-Clermont, a village near Grenoble in France. That's where the name comes from: MONestier-de-CLERmont. At first the brand made sleeping bags and tents, then down jackets for working and climbing in the mountains. In 1968 it kitted out the French ski team at the Grenoble Winter Olympics.

In the 1980s the puffer moved to the city. Designer Chantal Thomass worked with the brand, and in Milan the kids known as 'paninari' made it their uniform. That's when the shiny lacquered look became Moncler's signature. In 2003 Remo Ruffini bought the brand and took it into luxury.

The Maya brings all of that together: a short down jacket in lacquered nylon, with a hood and the logo patch on the sleeve. It became a classic because it goes with everything, you can spot it from across the street, and it comes back every winter barely changed. In 2022, for Moncler's 70th anniversary, seven designers reworked it, including Pharrell Williams, Rick Owens and Thom Browne.

Which size to get in a Moncler Maya

Moncler doesn't use S, M, L but numbers. For men, roughly: 0 = XS, 1 = S, 2 = M, 3 = L, 4 = XL, 5 = XXL. The Maya is short and fairly close-fitting, made for a T-shirt or a thin jumper underneath.

The safest move is to compare centimetres, not letters:

  • You usually wear M: start with size 2, then check the measurements.
  • You want a thick jumper or a hoodie underneath: go one size up.
  • You're between two sizes: take the bigger one. A puffer that's too tight squashes the down and keeps you less warm.
  • Measure a jacket that fits you well (chest flat, back length, sleeve length) and compare with the album's size chart.
  • Chinese sellers sometimes label sizes differently: always check the centimetres and read /guides/tailles-chinoises.

Moncler Maya price in 2026

In Moncler stores and at authorised retailers, the men's Maya sits around €1,400 to €1,800 in 2026, depending on the version. The kids' version starts around €650. Prices move from season to season, so always check the official site.

On Yupoo it's a different story: every seller sets their own price, and it varies a lot from one store to the next. Yupa shows the price each seller lists, converted to euros, without changing it. That isn't your final price: add shipping and, on arrival, VAT and sometimes customs duty. It's all explained in /guides/douane-colis-chine.

To compare two listings, look closely at the photos (stitching, patch, hood, zip), check that the seller gives a real size chart in centimetres, and think about shipping: a puffer is bulky, and volumetric weight can push the bill up.

Looking after your Maya

Lacquered nylon doesn't like rubbing or heat. For a small stain, a damp sponge and a bit of mild soap usually do the job. Never iron it, and read the care label before any wash. For a proper clean, use a dry cleaner who knows down.

In summer, keep it on a hanger or folded loosely in a dry place. If it's gone flat, shake it and give the down a few hours to puff back up.

What size should I get in a Moncler Maya?

Moncler uses numbers: 1 = S, 2 = M, 3 = L, 4 = XL. The fit is fairly close: go one size up if you wear a thick jumper underneath, and always compare measurements in centimetres.

In store, around €1,400 to €1,800 for the men's version, depending on the model. On Yupoo every seller sets their own price; Yupa shows it converted to euros, unchanged.
