The story of the Out of Office
Off-White is the brand Virgil Abloh, an American designer with a background in architecture, founded in Milan in 2013. Before that, he had launched a first project, Pyrex Vision, in 2012. Off-White quickly became known for its graphic codes: diagonal stripes, quotation marks, arrows and the plastic zip tie tag. In 2018, Abloh also became men's artistic director at Louis Vuitton.
The Out of Office came out in 2020. Abloh's idea: a low-top sneaker that recalls 80s and 90s tennis shoes, easy to wear every day, with the Off-White arrow on the side. Its name was quickly shortened to OOO, like an out-of-office email reply.
Virgil Abloh died in November 2021. The brand carried on without him, with Ibrahim Kamara joining in 2022 as art and image director. The Out of Office is still one of the house's best known sneakers, released every season in new colours and materials.
