What is Yupoo? A plain guide to how it actually works
You clicked a Yupoo link from Reddit, TikTok or a Discord server and landed on hundreds of photo albums, mostly in Chinese, with no cart and no buy button. That is expected: Yupoo is not a shop. Here is what it really is, how people buy from those albums, and why it is such a pain to search.
Yupoo in one sentence
Yupoo (又拍 in Chinese) is a Chinese photo hosting website. It started as an image sharing service, a bit like Flickr: you create an account, sort your pictures into albums and share the link.
Over the years, thousands of Chinese sellers turned it into their catalogue. It is free or close to it, it handles thousands of high resolution photos, and nobody checks the account the way a real marketplace would.
How a Yupoo store is organised
Each seller has their own account, with an address like storename.x.yupoo.com. Inside, one album usually equals one product: a pair of sneakers, a hoodie, a bag.
An album is mostly photos (often 10 to 30), a title and sometimes a short description. The price shows up when the seller feels like it: in the title, in the description, in yuan, or not at all.
- Albums are often grouped into categories (分类): shoes, jackets, bags, or by brand.
- Some albums are locked behind a password the seller shares privately.
- Titles mix Chinese, rough English and the seller's own internal codes.
You cannot buy on Yupoo
This is what confuses everyone at first. Yupoo has no cart, no checkout and no shipping. It hosts photos, that is all. Yupoo takes no money and guarantees nothing about what the accounts it hosts are selling.
The whole transaction happens somewhere else, between you (or your middleman) and the seller.
How buying actually works
There are two main routes. You can contact the seller directly, since many of them list a WhatsApp or WeChat on their store page. Or, more commonly for buyers in Europe and the US, you go through a shopping agent.
- Find the item in an album and note what matters: photos, price, available sizes.
- Get the item's link on an actual Chinese online shop: Weidian, Taobao or 1688. Many sellers put it in the album or send it on request.
- Paste that link into a shopping agent. The agent buys it for you in China, receives it at their warehouse and sends you inspection photos (the well known QC photos).
- If you are happy, you pay for international shipping. If not, you can ask for an exchange or a return, depending on the agent's rules.
We walk through each step, with the usual traps, in our guide: /guides/commander-sur-yupoo.
Why Yupoo is so hard to search
Yupoo was never designed as a product search engine. So finding one specific item quickly turns into a scavenger hunt.
- One store, one account: there is no search that covers every store at once.
- A store's search bar only looks at album titles, and those are often in Chinese or codes.
- No filter for price, size or colour.
- Prices, when they are there, are in yuan, so you convert in your head.
- The same item shows up at ten sellers for ten different prices, with no easy way to compare.
If you still want to dig by hand, we wrote a guide with the tricks that work (Chinese keywords, categories, image search): /blog/chercher-sur-yupoo.
What an item seen on Yupoo really costs
The price in the album is only the start. For a parcel delivered to France or elsewhere in the EU, this is what gets added.
| Item | What to know |
| Seller price | In yuan, sometimes negotiable, sometimes missing from the album |
| Agent fees | Vary by agent and by service (photos, packaging) |
| International shipping | Depends on weight, volume and the shipping line |
| EU customs duty | Since 1 July 2026, €3 per item category for parcels under €150 |
| Handling fee | An extra €2 per parcel from 1 November 2026 |
| VAT | Always due, at the rate of your country (20% in France) |
The €150 threshold is expected to go away around 2028. It is all explained in /guides/douane-colis-chine, and the /quand-commander calendar helps you avoid the slow periods (Chinese New Year, the end of year rush).
What about the legal side?
Yupoo itself is just a host, but you will find everything there: unbranded clothing, factory goods, and also copies of branded items. Buying counterfeit goods is illegal in France and the EU, and it can end with your parcel seized at customs. We cover it honestly in /blog/yupoo-fiable-legal.
Where Yupa fits in
Yupa is a search engine over the public catalogues of about 218 Yupoo stores, roughly 480,000 items with a price. You type what you are looking for and see results from every store at once, with the seller's price converted to euros and a direct link to their album.
We sell nothing and take no commission. Members also get size advice based on their measurements, the Weidian, Taobao or 1688 link to paste into their agent, and a ready-to-send message for the seller. There is a free three day trial if you want to see whether it saves you time.
Is Yupoo free?
Yes, browsing a Yupoo store is free and needs no account. Only some albums are password protected, and the seller gives out that password.
Can you buy directly on Yupoo?
No. Yupoo has no cart or checkout. You either contact the seller (often on WhatsApp or WeChat) or paste their Weidian, Taobao or 1688 link into a shopping agent.
Is Yupoo a Chinese website?
Yes, Yupoo is a Chinese photo hosting site. Most stores on it are run by sellers based in China, which is why titles are in Chinese and prices in yuan.
How do I find the Weidian or Taobao link for a Yupoo item?
Check the album description and the store's home page first. If it is not there, ask the seller. On Yupa, members see that link directly whenever the seller has published it.
Is Yupoo legit or legal?
The site itself is just a photo host. What can be a problem is what you buy: counterfeit goods are illegal in France and the EU. We go through it in /blog/yupoo-fiable-legal.
