Yupoo Chinese words: 偏大 means “runs large”, and it shows up 2.5 times more than 偏小

In short

The price sits at the start of the title, in yuan: ￥ or ¥ followed by a number, or a number followed by CNY. Then come the size (尺码, 号码, 码数), the item number (货号, 款号, 编号, 型号), the colour (黑色 black, 白色 white) and the material (牛皮 cowhide). The word not to miss is 偏大: “runs large”, so go smaller. 偏小 means the opposite. Of the 1,309 titles that carry 偏大, 1,301 are shoes.

What we counted, and how

On 1 November 2026, the Yupa catalogue held 1,570,670 listings from 222 Yupoo stores. 303,898 titles, or 19.35%, contain at least one Chinese character. The rest are in English, or just a code. We searched each word in the title the seller wrote, not in a translation.

We counted whole expressions, not single characters. 码 on its own appears in 23,711 titles, but it can mean size, number or code, so it tells you nothing. For every word, we reread random titles to check we were catching the right meaning. Three traps came up: 包邮 (shipping included) was mostly hiding inside 邮差包, a messenger bag (48 titles found, 5 real ones); 款号 inside 这款号称, “this model claims”; and 女款 inside 男女款. Those false hits are removed from every figure.

A listing can contain several words. 新款 (new arrival), found in 20,045 titles, is already covered in Yupoo search: 卫衣, 鞋, 包… the Chinese keywords that actually find things, along with the words for searching an item type. Here we stick to the words for reading a listing. These are the ten most common:

The price: in yuan, and almost always first

473,668 titles, or 30.16% of the catalogue, show a price in yuan. The yuan (元) is the unit of the renminbi, China's currency, and its international code is CNY. The ¥ sign is used for both the yuan and the Japanese yen. On a Chinese keyboard it comes out as a wide version: ￥. These are the ways you'll see it written:

• ￥ or ¥ followed by a number (“￥268”): 336,330 titles, 21.41%.
• A number followed by CNY (“268CNY”): 137,571 titles, 8.76%.
• A number followed by 元 (“268元”): only 289 titles.
• A price in dollars ($): 165,049 titles, 10.51%, often next to the yuan price (“￥340/$50”).
• Of the 473,414 titles that give a price with ￥, ¥ or CNY, 444,442 (93.88%) put it within the first six characters. When a title shows a price, it's usually the first number in it.

Size: 尺码, 尺寸, 号码 and 码数

Four words introduce the available sizes. After them you'll find a list (“S M L XL”) or a range (“36-45”).

尺码 is mainly a shoe word: 12,101 of the 14,111 titles that use it are pairs of shoes. 尺寸 often gives a bag's dimensions instead (“尺寸：20×12×20cm”): 4,392 of its 6,888 titles are bags. And 半码 is a half size (半 = half). A range doesn't tell you how the model fits: compare your centimetres with the album's chart and with Chinese sizes: a medium runs from 96 to 124 cm, here's how to get it right.

偏大, 偏小: the two words that change your size

偏 means “to deviate from the average”. 偏大 is “bigger than normal”: the model runs large, so go smaller. 偏小 is the opposite: it runs small, so go bigger. The gap often follows: 半码 (half a size), 一码 (one size), 0.5-1码 (half to one size).

In the catalogue, 偏大 appears in 1,309 titles and 偏小 in 533, so 2.5 times fewer. It's almost always about shoes: 1,301 of 1,309 titles for 偏大, 529 of 533 for 偏小. Three more words describe the fit:

• 宽松 (kuān sōng): loose, relaxed fit. 1,410 titles.
• 修身 (xiū shēn): slim fit, close to the body. 401 titles.
• 均码 (jūn mǎ): one size (均 “uniform” + 码 “size”). Only 60 titles, for example knit tops or belts.

“Runs large” according to the seller doesn't mean it runs large on you. Measure your foot or a piece of clothing that fits you well, and compare with the album's centimetres.

Men, women or both

款 means a model or version of a product. Next to 男 (man) or 女 (woman), it tells you who the cut is designed for.

Unisex says nothing about the fit. A 男女同款 pair in 35-45 covers both, but still check the size chart before you choose.

Colours: everything ends in 色

颜色 (yán sè) means “colour”: it often opens the list of colourways, in 3,581 titles. Every colour ends in 色. These are the most common:

Black (12,542 titles) shows up 1.6 times more than white (7,655). When several colours are listed, the album offers several: tell your agent exactly which one you want.

Materials

The material is often spelled out, especially for bags and shoes:

牛皮 is mainly a word for bags (4,091 titles) and shoes (3,322). In Chinese, 牛皮 also means “bragging”, in 吹牛皮: that meaning shows up in only 2 titles. And the written material is still the seller's promise: in the photos, look for the composition label.

Season and thickness

春夏 (spring-summer) appears in 9,137 titles, 秋冬 (autumn-winter) in 4,026. Easy to remember: 春 spring, 夏 summer, 秋 autumn, 冬 winter. 加绒, in 607 titles, joins 加 “to add” and 绒 “velvet, wool”: the inside is fleece-lined. Good to know for a winter sweatshirt.

Photos: 实拍, 出货实拍, 细节图

实拍 (shí pāi) means “real photo”, not staged or edited. It appears in 3,503 titles. 2,129 of them say 出货实拍: 出货 means “to ship goods”, so these are photos taken at shipping time. 细节图 (380 titles) is a “detail image”, close-ups.

A photo marked 实拍 is still the seller's photo, not your item. The only photos of your own piece are the ones your agent takes at the warehouse: how to read them in QC photos: GL or RL? The checklist before your parcel ships.

The item number: 货号, 款号, 编号, 型号

Four words introduce an item code. That code is what lets you ask for exactly the right piece, or find the same model in another store.

货号 is the most common word in our whole count. On sneakers it often comes before a code like “AB1234-100”. Elsewhere it's sometimes an in-house code that only works with that seller. Copy it as is when you message the seller or your agent.

Stock, pre-orders and returns

These words are rarer, but they tell you whether you can order right away, and whether you can change your mind:

• 现货 (xiàn huò): in stock, ready to ship. 2,561 titles. Sometimes followed by 秒发, ships instantly (秒 also means “right away” in casual speech).
• 预售 (yù shòu): sold in advance, a pre-order. Only 43 titles.
• 包邮 (bāo yóu): shipping included. It appears in only 5 titles, all as 不包邮, “shipping not included” (不 = not).
• 定做 / 定制 (dìng zuò / dìng zhì): made to order. Often for extreme sizes: “46.47定做” means sizes 46 and 47 are made on demand.
• 不退换 (bù tuì huàn): no returns, no exchanges. 241 titles, 185 of them right after 定做 or 定制.

That's no accident. In China, Article 25 of the consumer protection law lets buyers return a distance purchase (online, by phone or by mail order) within 7 days of receiving it, without giving a reason, and made-to-order goods are one of the exceptions. That law covers sales in China: before ordering a size marked 定做, ask through your agent whether the seller takes it back if it's wrong.

One title, read from start to finish

Here's a title we put together from the catalogue's most common words: “￥268 男女同款 宽松 加绒卫衣 黑色 灰色 尺码：S-XL 货号：A1023 现货”.

• ￥268: 268 yuan, the seller's price.
• 男女同款: same model for men and women.
• 宽松: loose fit.
• 加绒卫衣: fleece-lined sweatshirt (卫衣 = sweatshirt, see Yupoo search: 卫衣, 鞋, 包… the Chinese keywords that actually find things).
• 黑色 灰色: black or grey.
• 尺码：S-XL: sizes S to XL, to compare with Chinese sizes: a medium runs from 96 to 124 cm, here's how to get it right.
• 货号：A1023: the item number to give the seller.
• 现货: in stock.

What a title almost never tells you

Rare words are information too. 包邮 appears in 5 titles, 预售 in 43, 均码 in 60. Shipping terms, lead times and one-size details are almost never in the title: look for them in the description, in the photos, or ask the seller.

And 80.65% of the catalogue's titles contain no Chinese character at all. Many sellers write in English, or only put a code. In that case, the code is what you copy.
